A mobile school (m-school) is an innovative way to offer Technical and Vocational Education and Training courses (TVET) cost free to empower students who can’t afford school fees, or don’t have access to formal schools, as well as education to marginalize and isolated communities.
The Kenswed m-school is a collaboration between Kenswed organization in Nairobi, Kenya, and Linköping University, Sweden.
Courses: We provide over 50 vocational courses, including agriculture, computer programming, hair & beauty, pastry, plumbing, and more. Each course is designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals and includes a digital certificate upon completion.
Hubs and Equipment: Our Kenswed hubs, equipped with necessary tools and devices, offer a place for hands-on practice to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Objective: Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals our m-school program aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The Kenswed Mobile School program is an initiative designed to provide disenfranchised youth with access to vocational and technical education through technology. This program aims to equip students with practical skills that can enhance their employability and improve their livelihoods.
The course content is designed to be comprehensive and self-explanatory. We will conduct evaluations periodically to ensure that there is smooth learning. In the event you have a concern, kindly channnel it to your coordinator and it will be adressed.
The system will monitor your online activity by logging the time you spend on exams, reviewing course materials, and participating in discussion forums. This helps us ensure that you are engaging with the content effectively.
Exams are primarily conducted online through the LMS. At the final stage of the program, there will be a sit-in exam that consists of 90% practical assessment and 10% theory. This approach ensures that you have both theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for your vocational training.
Yes, you can enroll in multiple courses simultaneously. However, we recommend managing your time effectively to ensure you can handle the workload of each course. Entrepreneurship is a mandatory course for all.
The Kenswed Mobile School program is sponsored and offers courses free of charge to eligible students.
If you have difficulty understanding the course material, you participate in the online discussion forums for additional support.
Yes, upon successful completion of a course, you will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate can be downloaded from the LMS and may also be sent to your registered email address.
The mobile aspect of the program allows you to access educational materials and resources on digital tablets and solar media devices provided by the program. These devices are pre-loaded with content and can be used in areas with limited internet connectivity.
Practical components of the courses will be conducted at our well-equipped hubs. These hubs are designed to provide the necessary tools and facilities to effectively carry out hands-on training, ensuring that you gain real-world experience in your chosen vocational skills.
Yes. You can take multiple courses. However, note that entrepreneurship is MANDATORY.
Yes. It is necessary to ensure your course is done in 6 months. This will allow you to transition to the job market and the solar media to be reassigned to another beneficiary.
It is our misiion to nature entrepreneurial mindsets. By developing this mindset, you can be able to successfully set up and run your business or also be an Intrapreneur in your work place.
Your knowledge will be tested in a summative evaluation upon successful completion of your course, a digital certificate will be presented to you.
Exams issued by kenswed will be free of charge. However, we encoutrage you to take NITA exams at your closest TVET. The NITA exam will attract some cost that you will pay for yourself.
Exams will be done both onlie and the summative one will be physical at the hub
Without finishing your course, you will not get a certificate from Kenswed.
Computers and tablets are meant to be shared at the hub. We cannot be taking them to our homes for personal use
Yes. In line with our entrepreneurial mision, we will support you in starting a business after your course. This will be on condition that you have completed your course, have taken entrepreneurship and your business plan is the most viable one in your hub.
Our Kenswed hubs are currently located in Mtito Andei, Maili Tisa (close to the Namanga border), Lodwar, and Solio. These hubs are strategically placed to provide easy access for students in various regions.
Access to the hubs is scheduled by your coordinator. It’s important to attend meetings organized by your coordinator to learn when your cohort is scheduled to use the hub.
The hubs are open from 8 am to 5 pm. If a practical session requires it, special arrangements can be made. Your coordinator will assist you with any necessary scheduling adjustments.
Yes, all the materials and products required for practicals are available at the hubs at no cost to you. This ensures you have everything you need to successfully complete your training.
